BIOMED TECHNICIAN- MUDUG PROJECT

Main Purpose:            

Performing autonomously and following up, the maintenance and correct repair of the biomed equipment in the project/mission and ensuring regularly that the usual medical maintenance and cleaning are done properly according to MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure the equipment are in perfect running conditions.

Accountability:

         Performing and carrying out, all necessary complex / advanced installation, maintenance and repair of MSF biomedical equipment and ensuring that as few items are out of service at any given time. This includes the following tasks:  

·           Organizing and participating in the installation of biomedical equipment.

·           Following the schedule and carrying out preventive and curative maintenance works for the equipment according to the MSF and/or manufacturer's protocols, manuals, and recommendations and ensuring that cleaning and simple maintenance are properly carried out by medical staff.

·           Reporting any issues or problems on biomed equipment to his/her supervisor and proposing solutions (training of staff on a device, operating procedures, etc.). If maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools, this shall be requested from and provided by his/her supervisor.

·           Participating in organizing user training where required.

        Managing the stock of consumable items in, filling in stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage.

        Responsible for the equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.

        Keeping working area clean and tidy.

        Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed (including date of intervention, replaced parts, problems and solutions) and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

        Maintain updated 3A inventory records for biomedical and cold chain equipment within the project, including both MSF and non-MSF equipment used in MSF-supported departments.

        Utilize mission-approved tools for reporting, tracking, and documentation of biomedical and cold chain equipment breakdowns, and provide feedback to the supervisor on their functionality.

        Conduct regular rounds in supported departments to verify equipment functionality, user maintenance compliance, and identify technical support needs.

        Support the dissemination and application of biomedical and cold chain contingency plans and ensure relevant procedures are displayed and accessible to users.

         Monitor biomedical workshop stocks, spare parts, and consumables, ensuring updated dispensing record and proper storage conditions. Liaise with warehouse supervisor to retain updated records of existing stocks.

        Identify equipment requiring periodic battery charging during storage in warehouse and ensure charging schedules are implemented and documented.

        Provide user training and bedside coaching on the safe operation, cleaning, and routine maintenance of biomedical equipment.

        Escalate technical issues requiring specialized intervention through the supervisor and provide technical information required for calibration, spare parts requests, or external support from the Kenya office / NBIOCA through assigned focal point upon his/her supervisor’s approval according to mission’s procedures.

        Ensure all maintenance records, intervention reports, equipment histories, and inventory tools are updated accurately and maintained according to mission requirements.

Requirements

 

 

Education

·           Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Technology/Engineering

·           Demonstrable technical skills and understanding

·        Demonstrable good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant computer systems.

Experience

·        Minimum 3 years of experience as a Biomedic Technician or in a related technical field.

·        Pedagogical skills are an asset

Languages                       

·        Mission language and local language essential

Knowledge

Know and understand all the biomedical devices present on the project(s) including the operating principle, use and technical documentation, of each biomedical equipment on the project/mission
